Ascension Bay, in the Yucatan Peninsula area of Mexico, offers unmatched opportunities at a huge variety of fish. Permit and bonefish are the main fare here, with tarpon, snook, barracuda, jacks, snappers, to name a few, thrown in for good measure. Fishing these endless flats is surprisingly affordable and it’s a great destination for both the first timer and experienced anglers. Casa Viejo Chac offers great accommodations, guides and is regarded as one of the best lodges in Punta Allen, Mexico.

Fly Fishing

The fly fishing here is world renowned. There are countless bonefish in the 2-4 pound range with shots at bigger fish. In addition to all the bonefish you can handle, you’ll get numerous shots at the finicky permit. Want to change it up? Head to the mangroves for tarpon and snook. Have a rod ready for barracuda as there are always big fishing roaming the flats edges. All fishing is from the boat or wading with 2 guides and 2 anglers per boat.
