Christmas Island is NOW OPEN!

After almost 39 months, a Fiji Airways flight with about 25 fishermen landed on Kiritimati (Christmas Island) on May 3rd. Skinny Waters had a few fishermen in this first group of Guinea pigs and what follows is a second hand report of how the arrival went:

Leading up to the first flight in, Fiji Airways stressed the necessity of having proof of vaccination. Upon arrival to Cassidy Airport there was no proof requested and no one was wearing a mask. The other assumption was that everyone arriving would have to take a Covid test. This didn’t happen either. They said things were understandably a bit disorganized, but otherwise it was business as usual.

Fishing reports to follow! Will it fish like a newly discovered fishery after so long a break?

Safe to say, it’s time to start planning your fly fishing trip to this bonefish, trevally and triggerfish paradise. We can help!
