It’s Official! Christmas Island to open up to Fly Fisherman in January 2022!
Christmas Island shut down to visitors in Mid-February of 2020. Skinny Waters had fisherman waiting to board in the Honolulu airport when the the intercom lit up to announce that the island was immediately closed. That was the start of what would end up to be an almost 2 year travel ban. If you love that fishery, like anyone who has visited does, that 23 months felt like a decade.
Now, it appears that patience has paid off. Christmas Island is reported to be opening its borders sometime in January of 2022. A quick call to a random Fiji Airways rep has confirmed that they will begin flying there as soon as a date is announced.
