Christmas Island Opening January 10, 2022!
This new year has brought some long awaited news!
We have it on good authority that Kiritimati (Christmas Island) will finally open up to visitors on January 10th. If you have a spot on your private jet, save me a window seat. Otherwise, like most of us, you will have to wait until April 5th when Fiji Airways starts flying in. If you’re traveling thru Hawaii, a negative Covid test is required to enter the state and another negative test will be required to re-enter on your way back. Haven’t heard what will be available on Christmas Island in regards to Covid testing. I’m assuming they realize testing will be a part of allowing fly fishermen back, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
Now is the perfect time to book travel and Skinny Waters is the place to do it. The giant trevally, bluefin trevally, bonefish, triggerfish and even a few milkfish eagerly await your fly after their long break. Guided, DIY or a combination of both are options when you book with us. The first time you fly over the world’s largest atoll, you realize how much fishable water there is in the backcountry. We can help with a rental car and the intel to get you into fish from day one. If you have experience fishing on your own, but have never been to Christmas, we suggest going out on a boat with a guide for a day or two to get acclimatized. After that, you’ll have the confidence to fish solo. From our experience, there are bigger bonefish in the backcountry than anywhere else. Plenty of GT, big ones too, bluefin, and goldens back there too.
Please contact us with any questions about how we can help you plan the fly fishing trip of a lifetime!
